Ian Gilron is an Anesthesiologist and Pain Physician, Professor of Anesthesiology, Biomedical Sciences, Neuroscience, and Policy Studies, and Director of Clinical Pain Research at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Dr. Gilron conducts research on mechanisms and treatment of pain and is interested in health and science policy related to pain management and analgesic use. He serves as Principal Investigator on several research programs with continuous peer-reviewed funding since 2000. Among over 220 career-spanning peer-reviewed publications, work from Dr. Gilron’s team at Queen’s University has been published in the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, CMAJ, Pain, Anesthesiology and other journals. He has co-authored the 2025 IASP NeuPSIG guidelines on neuropathic pain treatment as well as several other consensus statements regarding pain treatment and research. Dr. Gilron has served on the Council and other Committees at IASP and is currently a Clinical Sciences Section Editor for the IASP journal PAIN.
